Author of Fairy — out February 2027
She's not a hero. She's not sober. But this Tooth Fairy is the only one who can save the day.
The Tooth Fairy is real — and she's a crass, c-bomb-dropping, middle-aged alcoholic named Suzuki Feldman, who loves nothing more than downing pints in London pubs and indulging in Japanese pro-wrestling. The pharmaceutical company she works for needs children's teeth, even if the purpose isn't fully clear.
One steamy summer's night, Suzuki visits a flat on a routine tooth collection and comes across a precocious ten-year-old girl named Bibi. Suzuki quickly realises the girl has seemingly been abandoned and reluctantly takes Bibi in with the promise she'll help her find her parents. Little does she know that Bibi's mum and dad have suffered a deathly fate at the hands of the very company that she works for.
Before long, Suzuki and Bibi — plus a motley crew of unlikely heroes — find themselves fighting to take down a multi-billion-dollar organisation. Will they succeed, or is this one case even the Tooth Fairy can't crack?
Anthony Roberts writes stories where the humour is dark, the action is heavy, and the pop-culture references are unapologetic. A Melbourne-based writer with two decades of experience including published writing in The Age and The Australian amongst others, Roberts trades the restraint of professional prose for a darker playground in his debut novel, Fairy. He credits his narrative choices to a lifetime of over-analysing '90s wrestling — proving that wearing out those Royal Rumble VHS tapes was, in fact, a productive career move.
In 2011, he had a book published by Explore Australia titled Reel Locations: The Ultimate Travel Guide to Aussie Films, and has also written children's books including Happy Feet, Spider-Man, and Barbie.
More appointments will be added as bookshop events, festival panels, and book club visits are confirmed. Running a book club and want Anthony to join a session? Get in touch below.
